Road projects in Ambattur zone on the cards

The Chennai Corporation is all set to carry out road infrastructure projects in Ambattur zone soon. The Corporation council passed a resolution to this effect recently. With a portion of the funds falling under zone-level allocation in the Mega City Development Mission, 170 roads in Ambattur zone measuring about 22.79 km would be re-laid at an approximate cost of Rs.14.95 crore. The works were divided into sections and tenders floated accordingly. Road laying works for 60 roads falling under Wards 79 to 82 would be carried out at a cost of Rs. 9.23 crore and for the other 110 roads, which come under other wards of the zone, works would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 5.72 crore. Of the extended areas, Ambattur zone was the most significant beneficiary of the Mega City Development Mission with an allotment of Rs.86.44 crore. A total of 70 roads extending to a length of 56.07 km were covered and Rs.55.31 crore was spent on road relaying and Rs.20.10 crore was spent on storm water drains. Sathyanarayana Street, Gandhi Street, Pillayar Koil Street, Pallam Street, Senguttuvar Street, Thiruvalluvar Street, in Menambedu, D Sector 10th Street, 11th Street in Padikuppam, 5th, 6th and 7th Avenue roads in Anna Nagar West Extension, TNHB 28-30, 32-37th Streets in Korattur are some of the smaller roads that would benefit from the road infrastructure project.
