CHENNAI: Food safety department officials on Friday night sealed a restaurant in Arumbakkam after a customer found a cockroach in his lunch. Sources said that Bala Kumar who ordered a meal in Hotel Vallavan found a cockroach and complained to the hotel authorities. Officials said Kumar saw the insect as he began eating. "But restaurant authorities refused to accept his complaint and an argument ensued. Other customers joined him and refused to pay their bill," said an official. Following the incident, restaurant authorities were forced to shut down the eatery till evening and re-opened at night. Based on complaints from customers, food safety officials inspected the restaurant and found it was functioning in unhygienic conditions. They asked the restaurant authorities to improve the condition in 15 days. "The kitchen was completely unhygienic," said district food safety officer S Lakshmi Narayan. He said several cockroaches were found in the kitchen.
Road projects in Ambattur zone on the cards
The Chennai Corporation is all set to carry out road infrastructure projects in Ambattur zone soon. The Corporation council passed a resolution to this effect recently. With a portion of the funds falling under zone-level allocation in the Mega City Development Mission, 170 roads in Ambattur zone measuring about 22.79 km would be re-laid at an approximate cost of Rs.14.95 crore. The works were divided into sections and tenders floated accordingly. Road laying works for 60 roads falling under Wards 79 to 82 would be carried out at a cost of Rs. 9.23 crore and for the other 110 roads, which come under other wards of the zone, works would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 5.72 crore. Of the extended areas, Ambattur zone was the most significant beneficiary of the Mega City Development Mission with an allotment of Rs.86.44 crore. A total of 70 roads extending to a length of 56.07 km were covered and Rs.55.31 crore was spent on road relaying and Rs.20.10 crore was spent on storm water drains. Sathyanarayana Street, Gandhi Street, Pillayar Koil Street, Pallam Street, Senguttuvar Street, Thiruvalluvar Street, in Menambedu, D Sector 10th Street, 11th Street in Padikuppam, 5th, 6th and 7th Avenue roads in Anna Nagar West Extension, TNHB 28-30, 32-37th Streets in Korattur are some of the smaller roads that would benefit from the road infrastructure project.

Book lovers in Anna Nagar now have a reason to celebrate as Just Books CLC, a community library chain opened up a branch in the locality. Unlike regular libraries, Just Books offers different kinds of memberships depending upon the needs of the reader. They can either come to the library and read the books or borrow them online. Members can also get the books home-delivered. According to the franchise owner Abirami Narayanan, the neighbourhood was perfect for this kind of a venture. “Just books, which is there all over the country is underrepresented in Chennai. There was only one outlet in Adyar before we started another in Anna Nagar. We did our survey before zeroing in on this location,” says Abirami, who along with her husband Narayanan run the place. She adds, “Anna Nagar is one of the most organised parts of the city. It has numerous educational institutions around and our research suggested that the neighbourhood has many readers here.” With bookstores across the city shutting shops, the idea of investing in a library may not seem like a good idea. But Abirami disagrees. “There are a lot of options but nothing can take away from the charm of reading a book. You cannot curl-up with your iPad. The response has been great and within a few days of the launch we have people signing up for the annual packages,” she says.

நேற்று முன்தினம் மகன், மருமகள் வேலைக்கு போனதும் வீட்டில் தனியாக இருந்த திரிபுரசுந்தரி மர்ம நபரால் கழுத்தை அறுத்து படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்டார். வீட்டில் இருந்த பீரோ உடைக்கப்பட்டு, அதில் இருந்த 65 சவரன் நகை, 3 கிலோ வெள்ளி பொருட்கள், ரூ.3 கோடி மதிப்பிலான சொத்து பத்திரங்கள் கொள்ளையடிக்கப்ட்டிருந்தது. பட்டப்பகலில் நடந்த இந்த சம்பவம் அப்பகுதியில் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியது. இதுகுறித்து ஜெஜெ நகர் போலீசார் வழக்கு பதிவு செய்து விசாரிக்கிறார்கள்.
குற்றவாளியை பிடிக்க திருமங்கலம் உதவி கமிஷனர் கலிதீர்த்தான் மேற்பார்வையில் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர்கள் பாலசுப்பிரமணி யன், விஜயகுமார், சங்கர் தலைமையில் 3 தனிப்படை அமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. முனிராஜின் வீட்டில் சிசிடிவி கேமரா பொருத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த கேமராவில் பதிவான காட்சிகளை போலீ சார் பார்த்தனர். அதில் டி ஷர்ட், பேன்ட் அணிந்த 22 வயது வாலிபர் ஒருவர் கையில் பேக்குடன் வீட்டிற்குள் நுழைவது, அரை மணி நேரத்தில் முனிராஜின் பேக் ஒன்றை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அவசரமாக 2 பேக்குகளுடன் வீட்டில் இருந்து வெளியே செல்வது உள்ளிட்ட காட்சிகள் பதிவாகி இருந்தது.
அண்ணா நகர் பகுதியில் கல்லூரி மாணவர்கள் ஏராளமானோர் தங்கியுள்ளனர். எனவே முனிராஜ் வீட்டுக்கு வந்தது கல்லூரி மாணவரா என்று போலீசார் விசாரிக்கிறார்கள். மேலும் முனிராஜின் வீட்டிற்கு செக்யூரிட்டி உள்ளார். சம்பவத்தின்போது செக்யூரிட்டி எங்கு சென்றார் என்ற சந்தேகத்தின் பேரில் போலீசார் அவரை பிடித்து விசாரிக்கிறார்கள். வீட்டு வேலை செய்து வரும் வசந்தா (50) என்ற பெண்ணிடமும் விசாரணை நடக்கிறது. மூதாட்டி கொலையில் குற்றவாளி குறித்து முக்கிய தடயம் கிடைத்துள்ளதாகவும், விரைவில் குற்றவாளி பிடிபடுவான் என்றும் போலீஸ் உயர் அதிகாரி தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

அண்ணா நகர் மேற்கு விரிவாக்கம் பகுதி எஸ்.எம்.நாராயணன் நகரில் வசித்து வந்தவர் திரிபுரசுந்தரி. இவர் கடந்த 31–ந்தேதி வீட்டில் இருந்தபோது பட்டப்பகலில் கொலை செய்யப்பட்டார். இது தொடர்பாக ஜெ.ஜெ. நகர் போலீசார் சம்பவ இடத்துக்கு சென்று விசாரித்தனர். திரிபுரசுந்தரியின் வீட்டு அருகே தனியார் ஆஸ்பத்திரி உள்ளது.
அங்கு பொருத்தப்பட்டிருந்த கண்காணிப்பு கேமராவில் கொலையாளியின் உருவம் பதிவாகி இருந்தது. இதை வைத்து போலீசார் துப்பு துலக்கினார்கள்.
கொலையாளியை பிடிக்க அண்ணாநகர் துணை கமிஷனர் சேவியர் தன்ராஜ் தலைமையில் உதவி கமிஷனர் கலிதீர்த்தான், இன்ஸ்பெக்டர்கள் பாலசுப்பிரமணியன், விஜயகுமார், சேட்டு ஆகியோரை கொண்ட 5 தனிப்படை அமைக்கப்பட்டது.
தனிப்படை போலீசார் அந்த பகுதியில் பால் பாக்கெட் போடுபவர்கள், டாக்சி டிரைவர்கள், வீட்டு வேலை செய்பவர்கள், தொலைபேசி நிறுவன ஊழியர்கள் ஆகியோரிடம் விசாரித்தனர்.
திரிபுரசுந்தரியின் வீட்டின் கீழே செயல்பட்டு வரும் விடுதியில் கடந்த 1 மாதமாக யார்–யார் தங்கியுள்ளனர் என்றும் விசாரணை நடத்தினர்.
கொலை நடந்த அன்று பேண்ட்டில் ரத்தக் கறை படிந்ததால் அதை அங்கேயே கழற்றி போட்டு விட்டு அங்கிருந்த வேறு பேண்ட்டை கொலையாளி அணிந்து சென்றுள்ளான். அந்த பேண்ட்டை தடயமாக சேகரித்து போலீசார் விசாரணையை துரிதப்படுத்தினார்கள்.
இந்த நிலையில் திரிபுரசுந்தரியின் மகன் முனிராஜிடம் போலீசார் விசாரித்தனர். அப்போது கடந்த ஜுன் மாதம் 30–ந்தேதி வீட்டில் இண்டர்நெட் இணைப்பு பழுதானதாகவும் அது தொடர்பாக தனியார் தொலைபேசி நிறுவனத்தின் வாடிக்கையாளர் பிரிவுக்கு போன் செய்ததாகவும், கடந்த 4–ந்தேதி ஊழியர் வந்து அதை சரி செய்ததாகவும் தெரிவித்தார்.
இதையடுத்து கடந்த 4–ந்தேதி யார்–யார் வந்துள்ளனர் என்று கண்காணிப்பு கேமராவில் போலீசார் பார்த்தனர். அப்போது கடந்த 4–ந்தேதி வந்த ஒருவர் கொலை நடந்த அன்று கண்காணிப்பு கேமராவில் பதிவான காட்சியுடன் ஒத்துப் போயிருந்தார்.
விசாரணையில் அவரது பெயர் கவுதம் என்பதும் அயப்பாக்கம் வீட்டு வசதி வாரிய குடியிருப்பில் வசிக்கும் இளங்கோவன் என்பவரது மகன் என்றும் தெரிய வந்தது. இவரது சொந்த ஊர் காரைக்குடி. பொறியியல் பட்டயப் படிப்பு படித்துள்ளார். என்ஜினீயரான அவர் தனியார் தொலை பேசி நிறுவனத்தில் ஒப்பந்த ஊழியராக கடந்த 7 மாதமாக வேலை பார்த்து வந்தார். அவரை போலீசார் கைது செய்தனர்.
அவரிடம் இருந்து 25 பவுன் நகை, 1 1/2 கிலோ வெள்ளி பொருட்கள் பறிமுதல் செய்யப்பட்டன. அவரது வங்கி கணக்கு மற்றும் சொத்து ஆவணங்களையும் கைப்பற்றினார்கள். 10 பவுன் நகைகளை அவர் அம்பத்தூரில் அடகு வைத்து ரூ.40 ஆயிரம் பணம் வாங்கியுள்ளார். மீதமுள்ள நகைகளை வீட்டில் மறைத்து வைத்திருந்தார்.
கொலையாளி கவுதம் போலீசில் கொடுத்துள்ள வாக்கு மூலத்தில் கூறியதாவது:–
கடந்த சில வருடங்களாக எனது குடும்பம் வறுமையில் வாடுகிறது. எனவே சீக்கிரம் பணம் சம்பாதிக்க வேண்டும் என்று ஆசைப்பட்டேன்.
நான் தொலைபேசி நிறுவனத்தில் வாடிக்கையாளர் சேவை பிரிவில் வேலைக்கு சேர்ந்தேன். வீடுகளுக்கு சென்று டெலிபோன் மற்றும் இண்டர்நெட் இணைப்பை சரி செய்து கொடுப்பேன்.
அப்போது தனியாக யாராவது இருந்தால் கொலை செய்து கொள்ளையடிக்க வேண்டும் என்று நினைத்தேன். நான் எதிர் பார்த்தது போலவே திரிபுர சுந்தரி வீட்டில் தனியாக இருப்பதை உறுதி செய்து கொண்டேன். முதல் முறை இண்டர்நெட் இணைப்பை சரி செய்து கொடுத்ததால் கடந்த 31–ந்தேதி போகும் போது திரிபுரசுந்தரி என்னை வீட்டுக்குள் எளிதாக அனுமதித்தார். இண்டர்நெட் இணைப்பை சரி செய்வதற்காக கத்தி இருந்தால் கொடுக்குமாறு கேட்டேன். அவர் வீட்டில் இருந்த கத்தியை எடுத்து தந்தார். அந்த கத்தியாலேயே அவரை குத்தி கொலை செய்தேன்.
பின்னர் ரத்தக்கறை படிந்த பேண்ட்டை அங்கேயே கழற்றி போட்டு விட்டு அங்கிருந்த வேறு பேண்ட்டை அணிந்து கொண்டேன். கண்காணிப்பு கேமரா இருப்பதை நான் கவனிக்க வில்லை.
இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.
இது தொடர்பாக போலீஸ் கமிஷனர் ஜார்ஜ் கூறும் போது, வெளியாட்கள் யாரும் வீட்டுக்கு வந்தால் தனியாக இருக்கும் முதியவர்கள் அவர்களை பற்றி தனது வீட்டை சேர்ந்தவர்களிடம் விசாரிக்க வேண்டும். எதற்காக வந்துள்ளனர். என்பதை உறுதி செய்து கொண்டு பிறகே வீட்டுக்குள் அனுமதிக்க வேண்டும். தனியாக இருக்கும் போது பொருட்களை பழுது பார்க்க வீட்டுக்குள் யாரையும் அனுமதிக்க கூடாது. முதியோர்களுக்கு தகுந்த பாதுகாப்பு அளிக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படும்.
இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.
பேட்டியின் போது கூடுதல் கமிஷனர் தாமரை கண்ணன், இணை கமிஷனர்கள் சண்முகவேல், வரதராஜ் ஆகியோர் உடன் இருந்தனர்.
